Kollam Aleppey Backwater Routes

We headed across the water way to Pallathuruthy, a village in the middle of the Kuttanad belt surrounded by paddy fields. Soon we passed by the village of Karumady, famous for the eleventh century granite statue of Buddha. The statue of Karumadikuttan on the pampa river bank at Karumadi, is one of the largest Buddhist statues in a sitting posture, many fascinating legends are associated with this 11th centaury statue of Lord Buddha.
After passing the Cheruthana village around we will come out of the Kuttanad region & the it typical landscapes. At 12:45 pm we reached Thottappally. Thottappally is especially notable for Thottappally Spillway, a spillway cum bridge on the National Highway 47 between Alappuzha and Kollam. The spillway is one of the two regulators used to regulate water level in the paddy fields of Kuttanad Harippad and Alappuzha. Soon after Thottappally we encounter Pallana Kumarakodi, The place where Kumaranasan , one of the famous Malayalam poet and revolutionary who helped to bring in great changes in the then social system of the state met with his tragic death in the Capsizing of the boat ‘Redeemer’ Thrikunnapuzha coir village is the other destination of this voyage. For rest and food 30 minutes time will be allowed to the tourists when the houseboat reaches at coir village jetty. Thrikunnapuzha village is populated mostly by coir workers. Their handicrafts are really surprising. See for yourself the artistic skills of the workers and coir weaving methods. Then passing Ayiram Thengu mangroves the nursery for a wide variety of fish fries.
The forest is also home to a colony of otters. The glittering, waxy green canopy of the forest provides a nesting place for a wide variety of migratory bird’s also. As we passes Arattupuzha fishing harbour, very close to the Arabian sea, we are to new backwaters of Kayamkulam Lake. Soon we will approach Amritapuri, the heaquarters of Mata Amritanandapuri Math.
